Alu-clad timber triple glazed windows in the Highlands and Islands
We survey and fit alu-clad timber triple glazed windows across the Highlands and Islands, from Inverness and Stornoway to smaller towns such as Dingwall. Island and remote districts are by arrangement, with travel and access costs shown separately on your quote.

The low-upkeep, high-performance frame many self-builders choose. Alu-clad (aluminium-clad) timber windows have a structural timber frame inside and a powder-coated aluminium cladding outside, glazed with a three-pane unit.

Rules in Scotland
In Scotland, replacement windows must meet 1.6 W/m²K. Replacing a window or door, frame and all, does not need a building warrant, but the work must still meet the building standards.
Planning: Since May 2024, replacement windows on houses are widely permitted development, including in many conservation areas, with front elevations expected to match the existing closely; your council tells you if prior notification applies. Flats outside conservation areas generally need permission only if the opening size changes. Listed buildings need listed building consent.
How it works
We start with a survey, not a sales pitch: measurements, the structure above any bays, trickle-vent needs and escape windows. The quote that follows fixes the price, and anything unexpected on the day is agreed with you first.
- Free survey and a written quote fixed for the specification
- Glass build-up and whole-window U-value on every quote
- Written handover pack at the end of the job
- Guarantees on frames, units and fitting in writing
Questions
Do alu-clad windows suit Passivhaus builds?
Many alu-clad systems are designed for low-energy homes. If you need Passive House Institute certified components, ask and we will price systems that hold that certification.
Can I choose different colours inside and out?
Yes. The aluminium can be any RAL colour and the timber inside can be natural, stained or painted.
Is alu-clad timber worth the extra cost?
It is for many self-builders and people planning to stay for decades, because the outside needs almost no upkeep and the timber inside looks warm. For a quick replacement on a typical semi, uPVC or aluminium give better value.
Do you cover all of the Highlands and Islands?
We arrange surveys and fitting across the Highlands and Islands. Island and remote districts are by arrangement, with travel and access costs shown separately on your quote.
Do I need permission for alu-clad timber triple glazed windows in Scotland?
In Scotland, replacement windows on houses are widely permitted development since May 2024, with front elevations expected to match closely; listed buildings need consent.
