Doors
Triple glazed bifold doors
Bifolds are the go-to for extensions because they open the room to the garden. In winter they are a big glass wall, so triple glass makes a real difference. Look for a system tested for the panel weight and with a good weather rating; the threshold detail matters as much as the glass.

Summary
Bifold doors are made of several panels hinged together that fold and slide to one or both sides, opening almost the full width of the opening. Triple glazed bifolds use three-pane units in every panel, so the frames and hinges must be strong enough for the extra weight; aluminium is the usual choice.

Why aluminium for triple glazed bifolds
Each bifold panel hangs from or rolls on hardware at its edge, so heavy triple panels need stiff frames. Aluminium keeps sightlines slim while carrying the load. uPVC and timber bifolds exist, but panel sizes are more limited with triple glass.
Using bifolds every day
A traffic door, a single panel that opens like a normal door, lets you use the bifold daily without folding the whole set. It is worth including on most installations.

Questions about bifold doors
How much are triple glazed bifold doors?
Our guide starts at £4,295 fitted for a 3-panel aluminium bifold about 2.4 m wide and £6,295 for 5 panels, inc VAT.
Are bifolds warmer with triple glazing?
Yes. The glass is most of the door area, so triple units cut heat loss and keep the inner surface warmer.
Are bifold doors secure?
Good systems lock at multiple points on each panel and use anti-snap cylinders. We specify tested doorsets where available.
Do I need building regulations for new bifolds?
Replacing an existing door is covered by the replacement rules. A new or widened opening is structural work that needs building control approval.
