Windows by frame material
Triple glazed aluminium windows
Aluminium costs more than uPVC, but it lets you have more glass and less frame, in any RAL colour. For triple glazing that strength matters: a big triple pane is heavy, and aluminium carries it without chunky profiles. Choose a system with a deep thermal break, because the frame is where aluminium loses heat.

Summary
Triple glazed aluminium windows use thermally broken aluminium frames, where an insulating strip separates the inside and outside of the frame, holding a three-pane sealed unit. Aluminium is strong enough to carry heavy triple glass in slim frames, which suits large openings and contemporary homes.

Thermal breaks: the part of the spec to check
Aluminium conducts heat about a thousand times better than uPVC, so a cheap aluminium frame can undo the benefit of triple glass. The thermal break is an insulating strip, usually polyamide, between the inner and outer halves of the profile. Wider breaks and insulated cavities give lower whole-window U-values. Your quote names the system and its whole-window U-value, so you can compare like with like.
Colour and finish
Frames are powder coated in the factory, in any RAL colour. Anthracite grey (RAL 7016) and black are the common modern choices; dual colour lets you have white inside and grey outside. For homes near the sea we specify a finish suited to coastal exposure.

Questions about aluminium windows
Are aluminium windows cold?
Not if the frame has a proper thermal break. Modern thermally broken systems with triple glass reach whole-window U-values around 1.0, well inside the Building Regulations limit for replacement windows.
How much do triple glazed aluminium windows cost?
Our guide runs from £1,095 for a small window to £2,795 for a large one, fitted and inc VAT. UK quotes typically sit 20 to 35% above uPVC.
Can aluminium windows take triple glazing?
Yes, and the strength of aluminium suits the extra weight. The system needs a glazing rebate deep enough for the unit, which we check on survey.
Do aluminium windows suit older houses?
They suit many 20th-century homes well. For Victorian and Georgian houses, or conservation areas, timber or heritage-style frames are usually a better match.
