Guide
What happens when your triple glazing is installed
From survey to sign-off: what to expect, how long it takes and how to prepare.

A triple glazing installation starts with a survey to measure every opening, then a written quote. Windows are made to order (typically 4 to 12 weeks depending on material), and fitting a whole house usually takes 1 to 4 days. Each opening is made weathertight the same day, and you get guarantees and a handover pack at the end, with the Building Regulations certificate in England and Wales.
1. Survey
The surveyor measures every opening, checks the structure above bays, notes escape windows, ventilation and safety-glass zones, and talks through styles and colours.
2. Written quote
The quote lists each window with its size, style, frame system, glass build-up and whole-window U-value, the fitting work, and how Building Regulations sign-off is handled. The price on the quote is fixed for that specification.
3. Manufacture
uPVC typically 4 to 6 weeks, aluminium 5 to 7, timber 6 to 10 and alu-clad 8 to 12.
4. Fitting days
The team protects floors, removes the old frames one opening at a time, fits and fixes the new frames, seals inside and out, and makes good the reveals. Each opening is closed up the same day.
5. Sign-off
You get a handover check, the guarantees and maintenance notes. In England and Wales you also get the Building Regulations certificate from the competent person scheme or building control; in Scotland and Northern Ireland a straight replacement needs no warrant or building notice, so there is no certificate to issue.
How to prepare
