Triple glazed fixed and picture windows in Taunton
Looking at triple glazed fixed and picture windows for a home in Taunton? We survey, quote and fit across Somerset, and the TA1 postcode district is part of that.
Frame a view without a cold glass wall. A fixed or picture window does not open; it is one large pane in a slim frame, used to frame a view or bring in light.
Winter light and glass choice in Taunton
Winter days in Taunton are short: about 7 h 55 min of daylight on 21 December, with the sun peaking near 16°. That low angle reaches deep into south-facing rooms, so we match the glass to each elevation rather than using one spec for the whole house.

Rules for fixed and picture windows in England
In England, replacement windows must meet 1.4 W/m²K, or a Window Energy Rating of band B or better. Replacement windows are a controlled fitting. A competent person scheme installer (such as FENSA or Certass) self-certifies the work and notifies the council within 30 days; otherwise a building control body approves it.
Planning: Replacing windows on a house is normally permitted development if the new ones look similar. New upper-floor windows in a side wall must be obscure glazed and fixed, or open only above 1.7 m. Flats and maisonettes have no householder permitted development rights, so a change that alters their appearance needs planning permission. An Article 4 direction in a conservation area may mean permission is needed, and listed buildings need listed building consent.
How it works
After the free survey you get a written quote naming the frame system, the glass build-up and the whole-window U-value for every item. Windows are made to order, then fitted, sealed and made good, one opening at a time.

Questions from Taunton
Is a picture window worth triple glazing?
Big panes lose a lot of heat and can feel cold to sit near. Triple glazing keeps the inner pane warmer, which makes the space by the window more comfortable.
Do fixed windows need trickle vents?
The room still needs ventilation. If the fixed window replaces one with vents, ventilation must be provided another way, for example a vented frame or an adjacent opener.
How long does it take to get triple glazed fixed and picture windows fitted in Taunton?
After the survey, typical manufacture time is 4 to 8 weeks, and most homes are fitted in 1 to 4 days.
Do you fit triple glazed fixed and picture windows in Taunton?
