Looking at triple glazed fixed and picture windows for a home in Magherafelt? We survey, quote and fit across County Londonderry, and the BT45 postcode district is part of that.
The best energy performance of any window type: no opening gaps. A fixed or picture window does not open; it is one large pane in a slim frame, used to frame a view or bring in light.
Winter light and glass choice in Magherafelt
Winter days in Magherafelt are short: about 7 h 13 min of daylight on 21 December, with the sun peaking near 12°. That low angle reaches deep into south-facing rooms, so we match the glass to each elevation rather than using one spec for the whole house.

Rules for fixed and picture windows in Northern Ireland
Northern Ireland requires replacement windows to achieve 1.6 W/m²K, or a Window Energy Rating of band C or better, which good triple glazing passes comfortably. Replacing windows or external doors does not need full plans or a building notice, but the work must still comply; enlarging an opening or other structural change needs building control approval.
Before ordering: Check with your council planning office before changing the style, material or size of windows or doors, and always for listed buildings, conservation areas and flats.
How it works
The surveyor measures every opening, checks ventilation, escape windows and safety-glass zones, and talks through styles. Your written quote lists each item with its glass build-up and U-value, and the price is fixed for that specification.
- Free survey and a written quote fixed for the specification
- Glass build-up and whole-window U-value on every quote
- Written handover pack at the end of the job
- Guarantees on frames, units and fitting in writing
Questions from Magherafelt
Do fixed windows need trickle vents?
The room still needs ventilation. If the fixed window replaces one with vents, ventilation must be provided another way, for example a vented frame or an adjacent opener.
Is a picture window worth triple glazing?
Big panes lose a lot of heat and can feel cold to sit near. Triple glazing keeps the inner pane warmer, which makes the space by the window more comfortable.
