Rules for bifold doors in Wales
Wales sets replacement door limits through Approved Document L for Wales (2022 edition, with 2024 amendments): 1.4 W/m²K, or a door set energy rating of band C (more than 60% glazed) or band B (other doors). Replacement external doors fall under the same energy rules as windows: a competent person scheme installer self-certifies the work, or building control approves it.
Planning: Householder permitted development rules do not cover flats, and councils can remove rights with Article 4 directions. Listed buildings need listed building consent. Check with your council before changing the style or material of a front door.

Do I need building regulations for new bifolds?
Replacing an existing door is covered by the replacement rules. A new or widened opening is structural work that needs building control approval.

Good systems lock at multiple points on each panel and use anti-snap cylinders. We specify tested doorsets where available.
Do I need permission for triple glazed bifold doors in Porthmadog?
In Wales, householder rules do not cover flats, councils can use Article 4 directions, and listed buildings need consent. Check whether your street is in a conservation area or covered by an Article 4 direction before changing the style.
How long does it take to get triple glazed bifold doors fitted in Porthmadog?
After the survey, typical manufacture time is 5 to 8 weeks, and a door is usually fitted in a day.
