Winter light and glass choice in Edinburgh
Winter days in Edinburgh are short: about 6 h 58 min of daylight on 21 December, with the sun peaking near 11°. That low angle reaches deep into south-facing rooms, so we match the glass to each elevation rather than using one spec for the whole house.

Rules for alu-clad timber windows in Scotland
The rules for replacement windows in Scotland are set by the Building Standards Technical Handbook (Domestic), section 6: 1.6 W/m²K. Replacing a window or door, frame and all, does not need a building warrant, but the work must still meet the building standards.
Before ordering: Since May 2024, replacement windows on houses are widely permitted development, including in many conservation areas, with front elevations expected to match the existing closely; your council tells you if prior notification applies. Flats outside conservation areas generally need permission only if the opening size changes. Listed buildings need listed building consent.
How it works
After the free survey you get a written quote naming the frame system, the glass build-up and the whole-window U-value for every item. Windows are made to order, then fitted, sealed and made good, one opening at a time.
- Free survey and a written quote fixed for the specification
- Glass build-up and whole-window U-value on every quote
- Written handover pack at the end of the job
- Guarantees on frames, units and fitting in writing
